DAVAO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has achieved a key milestone in the 4.76-kilometer Samal Island–Davao City Connector (SIDC) Project by successfully completing the first bi-directional static load test on an offshore pile on the Samal side.

During a site visit on April 11, 2025, Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain reported to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan that the project has surpassed 12% completion. He stressed the importance of quality control to ensure the bridge’s durability and safety. The SIDC is a major initiative under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Build Better More program.

Despite a petition for a Writ of Kalikasan filed by environmental advocates citing concerns over coral damage, DPWH Davao spokesperson Dean Ortiz confirmed that construction will continue as planned.

The completed bridge will include a four-lane extradosed span with marine and land viaducts, ramps connecting to Davao City’s R. Castillo–Daang Maharlika junction, and a roundabout in Barangay Limao, IGaCoS.
