MANILA – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to commence a major rehabilitation and upgrade of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) by the end of March 2025.
In an advisory issued Tuesday, the DPWH-National Capital Region (NCR) announced that the rehabilitation work will be carried out in segments, starting with one lane at a time. The project will begin with the EDSA bus lane.
“By late March 2025, the northbound segment from the Quezon City-Caloocan boundary to Monumento will be the first section to undergo rehabilitation,” the statement read.
The DPWH further noted that the southbound portion of EDSA, which consists of 15 segments, will commence as soon as funding is released and contract approvals are finalized.
To minimize traffic disruptions, construction activities will be conducted around the clock to accelerate completion. The department emphasized that the rehabilitation is a long-term solution to recurring issues such as frequent pothole patching and deteriorating pavements. Reinforced concrete will be used to enhance road durability, ensuring it can withstand heavy vehicle volume.
The project will also include an asphalt overlay with anti-rutting and anti-cracking properties to extend pavement lifespan. Additionally, the drainage system will be upgraded with high-density polyethylene pipes to improve water flow.
Despite the ongoing construction, the DPWH-NCR assured commuters that the EDSA bus carousel would remain operational. However, the bus lane will be temporarily relocated to an adjacent lane, while bus stations will continue serving passengers.
“Once the initial rehabilitation segments are completed, the EDSA bus lane will revert to its original location for normal operations,” the advisory added.
Motorists are advised to expect possible traffic slowdowns in the affected areas and are encouraged to utilize alternate lanes during the construction period.
For updates on the rehabilitation project and related traffic advisories, the public is encouraged to follow DPWH-NCR’s official social media channels.
The DPWH assured that all activities are being coordinated with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the Department of Transportation (DOTr), local government units, and other stakeholders, aligning with the agency’s commitment to improving EDSA and enhancing the region’s road network efficiency.
