Motorists heading to Baguio City are strongly advised to avoid Kennon Road due to worsening safety concerns brought on by landslides, rockfalls, and ongoing rehabilitation works. The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Tuba, Benguet issued a public advisory warning travelers of the high risk, especially during the rainy season.

Kennon Road, one of the oldest and most scenic routes to Baguio, has become increasingly unstable in recent months. Its steep terrain, combined with rain-triggered erosion and loose debris, makes travel extremely dangerous. Rehabilitation efforts are ongoing but have added to the hazards, with wet construction zones and frequent falling rocks putting motorists at further risk.

Although Kennon Road is partially open to light vehicles, authorities still discourage its use. Safer and more reliable routes such as Asin Road and Naguillan Road are now being promoted for travel to Baguio.

Safer Routes to Consider

Asin Road
This route offers a more secure and scenic drive, with wider lanes and gentler inclines, making it suitable for both light and heavy vehicles. The risk of rockslides is significantly lower compared to Kennon.

Naguillan Road
Ideal for all-weather travel, Naguillan Road features smoother curves and more stable terrain, ensuring a safer and more comfortable trip to the city.

Rehabilitation Work in Progress
Kennon Road remains a key gateway to Baguio, but construction efforts to improve its safety and durability are still underway. Until these projects are completed, the route remains unstable—especially under wet conditions—and should be avoided.
