Piggatan bridge in Alcala, Cagayan collapses

Cagayan Bridge Down, Overload Suspected

The Piggatan Bridge in Alcala, Cagayan—a lifeline that had served the community for three decades—suddenly collapsed on Monday afternoon, October 6, according to the Cagayan Provincial Information Office.

The collapse happened dramatically around 5:30 p.m., just as many residents were making their daily commute home from work. Several ten-wheeler trucks were caught in the accident, including an 18-wheeler trailer truck that was crossing the span while loaded with rice (palay).

Thankfully, authorities have confirmed that no injuries have been reported so far, and they quickly responded to secure the scene.

This collapse is a huge blow to the local community. Piggatan Bridge was the main connection for Alcala's northern barangays to the town center and the highways leading toward Tuguegarao City.

As a result, motorists now face a much longer and more inconvenient journey. Travelers are being forced to take major detours through Gattaran, Baggao, or Peñablanca, routes that officials say will add several hours to travel time.

The bridge remains strictly off-limits to all vehicles as authorities assess the full extent of the damage. Read more → https://www.philstar.com/nation/2025/10/06/2477980/piggatan-bridge-alcala-cagayan-collapses
