NGCP ensures stable power for 2025 polls

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is assuring the public of a stable and reliable power supply during the 2025 National and Local Elections.

In line with COMELEC Resolutions No. 10999 and 11055, NGCP has suspended all non-essential maintenance and construction activities from May 5 to 16, 2025. Arth Sinobago, NGCP Government Relations and Regional Affairs Lead Specialist, said that work inside substations and within 300 meters of live transmission lines has been halted, and vegetation clearing was completed by April 30.

To prepare for the elections, NGCP implemented key infrastructure upgrades across its service areas. In North Luzon District 6—which includes Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, and Bulacan—NGCP reconductored 45 structures along the Mexico–Pao segment of the 69 kV line from March 20 to April 12 to prevent overloading and manual load dropping in areas covered by PELCO 3.

Additionally, the company replaced 38 aging wood poles along the Cabanatuan–San Luis line and swapped out rusted insulators on 42 structures along the Poblacion Sur–Kaingin segment, ensuring consistent power for substations under NEECO II Areas 1 and 2 and AURELCO’s San Luis and Maria Aurora.

To further ensure power reliability, NGCP will activate its 24/7 Overall Command Center from May 11 to 8:00 PM on May 14 for real-time monitoring. Critical units—including System Operations and Maintenance—will be fully staffed, and technical teams such as line crews and engineers will be on standby in strategic locations.

Preparations began as early as February with the activation of Power Task Force Elections, a dedicated team overseeing grid security during the election period.

NGCP also reminds the public to avoid unsafe practices near power lines, such as burning or planting underneath them, and to conserve electricity during the hot summer months to help maintain a steady power supply.

The corporation remains committed to supporting a smooth and uninterrupted electoral process by ensuring consistent and secure electricity throughout the 2025 elections.
